Online Shopping Vs. Retail Shopping
So, if some of you have done your research as to who we are and what we do, you’ll know that we started as an Online Retailer, selling only through the internet. Now, however, since moving to our new premises, we’ve had the opportunity to expand our audience with a walk-in shop, which allows our customers to walk away with products there and then and also have a flick through our catalogues.
Why do both, you ask? By giving our customers the option of both allows us to broaden our audience and also gives you (the public) more options.
Don’t like online shopping or waiting for deliveries…. no problem! Visit us in store.
Don’t have the time out of your busy schedule to come yourself…no problem!
Order online with our speedy delivery!
You see our reasons 😉
So in store shopping is a doddle it’s been around for ages so I’m not going to teach you how to suck eggs. But for those of you who are a bit weary of online shopping let me give you a few pros and cons of online retail.
So the online shopping experience has become rapidly popular in the last few years with customers and the stats really show! Last year alone, a whopping £91 billion was spent online shopping and 2014 is expected to have £107 Billion spent making online purchases. That’s insane! So if online shopping is so amazing for the economy and its customers, why isn’t everyone online shopping?
‘For’ Point.1- Better Prices! Online shopping, you sometimes get better prices and offers. This is usually because the products don’t have to be presented to the customers in a retail fashion and thus the company doesn’t have to worry about the fees of storage i.e. having a walk-in shop. We were lucky in that our walk-in shop was ready made next to the new warehouse, so we could open it without any increase to our online prices! It may not be beautiful, (yet), but it does what we need it to do…
‘For’ Point.2 – Convenience! The world is rapidly changing so everything is more convenient and accessible to the public a great example of this is online TV. It’s on the go and convenient for its audience. Well now so is shopping! People don’t want to go out of their way to shop anymore they want it at the click of a finger. Online shopping is 24/7 no waiting for shops to open, or till ques. Simply; click and purchase.
‘Against’ Point.1 – Delivery With online shopping comes delivery and waiting. The convenience of it you could argue; as when you shop in-store you walk away with your product that very minute, whereas online shopping you have to wait for delivery, which can sometimes be more hassle than it’s worth; like extra charges and delays !?!
‘Against’ Point.2 – Technology Arrghh! Unfortunately the world of internet can be a daunting place for those who aren’t computer wizzes. The whole process can be quite Scary and you have to put your trust into a website or telesales person to ensure the details you’re giving them are secure.
Don’t let that put you off! I’m going to give a few tips on how to ensure that your online experience is top notch.
Know your product! Quite often on a product page some can end up ordering the wrong item. Depending on the lay out of the website it can be quite confusing to see if the one product offers different variations i.e. colour and quantity. If you’re on the phone to someone try and find a product code or reference number that you can refer back to the sales assistant so both you and they know what you’re after.
Tip – In a call, Ask if there are any offers or special discounts on the product you’re looking at, at that time. We love to give offers and you like to receive them, so why not ask!!!
Protect your Info! If, like some, you are weary of putting in personal information into a website, then check at the bottom of the website. In the small print should be a declaration of the Data protection act, so you can be reassured that the information is for purchase use only and will not be passed onto a third party or used illegally.
Confirm and Pay Make sure that the website you’re on asks you to confirm your order before purchase so you can review what it is you’ve selected and make sure all the details are correct. Also, if you’re uncomfortable making online payments give the sales team a call and they’ll either help you through the process or take your payment over the phone…. Easy!
Deliveries Once you’ve found your product it’ll either qualify for a free delivery or, more than likely, there will be extra charges for delivery. If so, make sure that you have picked the best method for you and your product and check the lead time of delivery. No point ordering something that doesn’t get to you in time for when you need it.
Tip– quite often a company will tell you who their courier is and send you a confirmation email which includes delivery info. Keep this safe so you can refer it back to a customer service team if anything goes wrong.
It’s ok to ask! If you do have any questions that aren’t 100% clear on the company’s website or you’re just unsure about something, then look for an enquiries telephone number or email address. It doesn’t hurt to ask, that’s what they’re there for!
All of this we happily provide with True Traders. I hope this helped all you “on-line-shopping haters” out there, if I missed anything give me a shout!
